Day 1 (Sunday): Arrival

Arrive in David International Airport, Greeted by Alouatta Staff, Make way to Alouatta Sanctuary.

3:00 - 4:00 pm Settle into quarters

4:00 - 9:00 pm Welcome BBQ, introduction to staff, and games

Day 2: Orientation and Introductions

7:00-9:00 AM Breakfast and meet in lounge to discuss Alouatta Sanctuary Mission/Areas of Research/Schedule

9:00 – 11:30 am Intro to Animals of the Sanctuary

12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch at Lodge.

1:00 – 3:00 pm Caring for sanctuary residents – food, protection, enrichment

3:00 - 5:00 pm Trail orientation hike

5:00 – 7:00 pm Feeding and prepping baby animals for bed

7:00 pm Dinner

8:00 - 10:00 pm Night hike or wildlife videos and games

10:00 pm Quiet time - Electricity and hot water turns off

Day 3: Monitoring the Sanctuary

5:30 am Optional early risers: Yoga at platform or observe cognition studies in progress from lounge

7:00 – 9:00 am Breakfast at lodge

9:30 – 11:00 am Lecture Hike: Forest Composition and Ecology

12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch

1:00 - 2:00 pm Lecture: Wildlife Census Methods

2:00 - 5:00 pm Practicum: Wildlife Census Methods – Transect orientation, and data collection protocols

5:00 - 7:00 pm Introduction to nocturnal species

7:00 - 9:00 pm Dinner

9:00 - 10:00 pm Night Hike

Day 4: Defining Wildlife Rehabilitation

5:30 am Yoga at platform or observation of cognitive study

7:00 – 9:00 am Breakfast at lodge

9:30 – 11:00 am Lecture Hike: Evaluating Success of Wildlife Rehabilitation

12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch

1:00 - 2:00 pm Lecture: Tracking and comparing behavior of rehabilitated primates

3:00 – 5:00 pm Practicum: Foraging study protocols

5:00 – 7:00 pm Free Time or Yoga class

7:00 – 9:00 pm Dinner

8:00 -10:00 pm Wildlife videos

Day 5: Rehabilitation, Reforestation and Wildlife Corridors

5:30 am Yoga at Platform or observation of cognitive study

7:00 – 9:00 am Breakfast at Lodge

9:00 – 11:00 am Lecture Hike TOPIC: Habitat and Corridor Use

12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch

1:00 – 2:00 pm Lecture: Introduction to Camera Traps

2:00 – 3:00 pm Practicum: Camera Traps Deployment

3:00 – 5:00 pm Plantings or participation in fruit gathering and plant identifications

5:00 – 7:00 pm Free time and personal explorations

7:00 – 9:00 pm Dinner

Day 6: Community Conservation

5:30 am Yoga at platform or observation of cognitive study

7:00 – 9:00 am Breakfast at lodge

9:30 – 10:30 am Travel to Ngobe Indigenous Tribal Village

11:00 am – 1:00 pm Lunch and introduction to Ngobe customs and culture

1:00 - 2:00 pm Tour of village and discussion: Socioeconomics of Community Conservation

3:00 – 5:00 pm Hike to River waterfall

5:00 - 5:45 pm Travel Back to Sanctuary

7:00 – 8:00 pm Dinner

8:00 – 10:00 pm Reflections

Day 7: Farewell and Departure

5:30 am Yoga at Platform or observation of cognitive study

7:00 – 9:00 am Breakfast at Lodge

9:30 – 11:00 am Conservation Dialectic

12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch

1:00 – 3:00 pm Gualaca Falls

4:00 pm Airport and bus station drop off
